Spam

Yesterday I posted on the various affiliate programs that I promote with my home based business website. They have since mysteriously disappeared, I think thanks to Mixx moderators, but I did see a couple of negative comments in Mixx.com claiming that my submitting this post to Mixx was considered "spam". So, I had to go and do some research to see if I was indeed "spamming" this social media site.

I started with Webopedia where they define spam as "an endless repetition of worthless text". The intent of the blog post was to educate readers on the affiliate programs included in Plug In Profit Site. I have since re-read this post and did not find any of the text to be repetitive to the extreme. I also have not been submitting posts like this in repetitive fashion like you see so prevalently in email marketing day in and day out. Depending on the nature of the person reading it, and their interests, it may have seemed worthless. However, I need to point out that my opt-in list, who have opted into freely and are interested in the Plug In Profit Site, would disagree with this.

The word spam was termed to describe unwanted email according to Webopedia. It was coined by the computer group lab at the University of Southern California and has the the same characteristics as the lunchmeat Spam:

* Nobody wants it or ever asks for it.
* No one ever eats it; it is the first item to be pushed to the side when eating the entree.
* Sometimes it is actually tasty, like 1% of junk mail that is really useful to some people.

In using social media sites to perform social media marketing, I am looking for the 1%, or more, that find it useful and who would not believe a social media post to be endless, repetitive, or worthless. Incorrectly call it spam if you must, claim that it is self promoting which is actually closer to the fact, definitely comment on it please, and then let the democratic process of the social media site control it.

You can always vote it down.
