I'm something of a talk radio geek. I find it to be good company when I'm working overnight at my Airport job.
Anyway, a few months ago I heard what I thought was quite a profound quote from one of my favorite talk show hosts, Neal Boortz. His quote was, "poverty is a behvavior disorder". What irrefutable truth! WOW! How cool is that statement?
The main reason why that quote hit so close to home for me is that it was at about the same time I heard it that I had decided to give myself a financial makeover. I was seriously contemplating getting into some type of online business. I had promised myself to again seek success and prosperity and to totally reject anything less. I was at that time seeking a "cure" for what was definitely a behavioral disorder that I had been undergoing for the past few years.
To back track a bit, let me briefly explain some of what I've been through. I'm a native New Yorker now relocated to North Carolina; the land of my Mother's kin. I've worked mainly in Textiles and Wall Street Banking while in New York; both industrys did major downsizing and/or outsourcing. Finally it was my time to be "job discontinued". I've held a steady job since the age of 17; even went to college and earned degrees in Marketing and Chemistry. This wasn't supposed to happen to me. I thought I was lucky to have always had "good" jobs with large multi-billion corporations. They always take care of their employees right? You put in your time, then they take care of you, right? Wrong!
After locating to North Carolina I decided to get in on the real estate boom and was doing pretty well, had even bought my first home, until "911" happened and wiped me out. I pretty much lost everything, including my house and good credit rating.
So after going through a period of depression and wallowing in self pity, I have found the strength and desire to try again. My entrepreneurial spirit is back! My disorder is well on the mend, thank you very much! I am no longer afraid to pursue success because I expect to fail.
I am now a website owner. Having started out on the shortest and frayed of shoestrings, 5 months later I'm still here and learning more about how to succeed in internet marketing everyday. When I first started out, I wasn't all that sure that I would be in it this long. I was completely frustrated and hopelessly overwhelmed. Yet, here I am and feeling more positive that I can make a huge success of this business everyday!
Luckily, I work a 3-day 40-hour week, which leaves me 4 days per week to work on my home-based business. I like the sound of that; "MY home-based business". From now on I'm committed to doing a lot more of whatever it takes to make my business work; forum posting, article writing, all the more inexpensive things that will have positive results for my website. I'm even becoming proficient at using HTML and creating web pages. But what's really so great is again having the DESIRE to create and accomplish something. MY "pity party" is over folks. Good riddance!
I would advise you all to stay on top of current events, politics, and economical issues. Things have changed dramatically for working class people. There's no more job security or guaranteed retirement packages. I wouldn't bet on Social Security either. Those who are not autonomous and independent enough to find a way to provide on their own may be facing a very meager retirement.
For me, internet marketing provides everything I need to ensure my financial future. The opportunities are limitless and millions of new potential customers enter cyberspace everyday.
Seek out ways to protect those you love, your health and your finances. Good luck in all you aspire to do.
