Here is exactly what you will need to buy, in order to create a website for your small business, so that you can sell your products online. 1) Web Hosting - A web host allows you to put your website online, once you create it. It is a requirement for creating a website. Web Hosts price ranges anywhere from $2 all the way up to $300 per month. The mean being $5 per month. In web hosting (to some extent) you get what you pay for. 2) Domain Name - A domain name is what somebody types in to get your website. It's YOURCOMPANY [DOT] COM. You can register a domain name, from most web hosting companies, and they usually cost around $10 per year. Some web hosts, usually the more expensive ones, will include a free domain name as part of the hosting package. 3) WYSIWYG - Wysiwyg stands for "What You See Is What You Get" This allows you to create a website, without knowing HTML, PHP, or any other technical things like that. WYSIWYG's will end up costing you between $300 to $400, the cheaper ones are pretty much all just really bad, and don't do much for you. 4) Auto Responder - An auto responder allows you to create a mailing list, so that you can contact all of your employees at once, by email. You have to pay based on how many subscribers you have. If your company has a small amount of subscriber (less than 2,500), you will need to pay about $18 per month. 2,500 subscribers may seem like a lot, however it's not, when you realize how many people actually end up subscribing to your mailing list. Especially if you do something to encourage them to, like giving away free coupons. 5) Shopping Cart Service - If you want to make your website an ecommerce store, you will need to get a shopping cart service or software. Software is a good option, however it takes a lot of work to run, and requires a lot of technical skills. Plus you may need to buy a more expensive hosting service, in order to have enough resources to be able to host the software. Thus it will probably be a better option to just use a third part service to create the shopping cart/store. The service that you use will also probably look a lot better than the software would. You will need to pay around $100/year. 6) Promotion - Finally you will need to promote your site. This part of the building process actually has multiple steps. - First you need to hire an SEO consulting firm. These companies will show you how to get your website indexed highly in Google, and Yahoo. This allows you to get traffic from those two (and other) search engines easily. - Next you will need to buy a link building service package. You need to find someone or multiple people who will submit your website to all of the major Search Engines and submit your site to other websites that allow backlinks. This will cost over $100, and you will want to do this 3-4 times a year. - Finally you will want to do a little research on your own, just to make sure that everything is going smoothly, and to find new keywords to promote your site with. In order to do this, you will want to buy a keyword software. Really the only good one available that you can buy individually is WordTracker. WordTracker will cost you $300 per year. As you can see creating a website will be very expensive, however it will definitely be worth it, as you will be able to make many more sales, than you would be able to without one.
