The way I see it, there are 3 major reasons why people fail at building their home business.
1. Unrealistic Expectations - People think that money will start flooding in just because they clicked the submit button on a program's sign-up page. This could be for any online business opportunity. I have said it before and I will say it again...The Internet is a land of opportunity, NOT the land of make-believe. People need to understand that this business (internet marketing / affiliate marketing) is a real business that requires real effort.
2. Financially Over-Extend Themselves - Throwing money at your business does not always guarantee success. Again, you need to work your business consistently. It will take some money to get up off the ground. Poor budgeting or a total lack of budgeting, can put you at risk of losing your business. A successful business owner knows what their monthly spending limits are and they abide by these limits. When you begin to make money you can put your profits back into your business and expand your budget. Spending too much too soon can force you to close your doors.
3. Lack of Support and Training - I have seen many programs that claim to be the next big money maker but when you join, you aren't provided with any follow-up.....or you are given very poor follow-up at best. These "business opportunities" want your initial sign-up fees and then they leave you to fend for yourself. For someone who is new to the world of affiliate marketing, that can be detrimental. You are thrust into the deep end of the pool and are told to 'sink or swim'. Unfortunately, many sink because no one is around to help them. They aren't given the tools necessary to succeed.

So what do you need to succeed?
1. A Willingness to Learn - The information is out there. Go get it. (Unless you join PIPS, then the information is handed right to you).
2. A 'Can Do' and 'Will Succeed'Attitude - You need to be committed to do the work.....and then actually do the work.
3. Don't Be Afraid To Switch Gears - A lot of affiliate marketing is testing. Some things you try, some ads you run won't net you a profit. You need to be able to recognize when an avenue you have taken isn't working and drop it and move on to some other form of advertising. Sometimes it is just re-writing an ad. Sometimes it is completely revamping your approach. But to be successful you have to be prepared to switch gears.
