As you can bethink of, the ZR1 is the most powerful and most expensive Corvette model ever. They're not production vehicles. The ZR1 features blue badges, engine valve covers, and brake calipers. GM's plan for the LS9 included a supercharger, and it felt the 427 cubic-inch block wasn't strong enough to reliably hold up to the intended boost.
The LS9's output is nearly 103 horses per liter. I wonder if they improved the interior. GM is trying to prove itself to the rest of the world.
They're so big and are required to be so powerful they're using the same 15-inch-diameter discs found on the front of a Ferrari 599. The engine produces 90 percent of peak torque from 2,600 rpm to 6,000 rpm. For the price though, I doubt that will matter much. Heads will be from a special heat resistant aluminum alloy from the LS9's manufacturing process.
Underpinned by a supercharged V8, the new ZR1 Corvette is impressively insane. The hood contains a polycarbonate window which will allow the intercooler to be viewable. The camshaft lift was reduced from the LS7's to improve idle quality.
They're also working on offering a kit for the Lexus IS-F , set to include headers and a modified exhaust system to squeeze more oopmh from the eight-geared oddity. We were lucky enough to spend some time with Ron Meegan, the assistant chief of GM's small block engine program, and he gave us an engineer's view of the supercharged LS9 engine . 2L small block V8 packs at least 620 hp and nearly 600 lb-ft of torque, and its duty is to finally put the Corvette into the supercar club. Carbon fiber was used for the front fenders, front splitter, lower rocker moldings, roof panel, roof bow and the hood.
