One of the best ways to get traffic to your site is to get listed in the search engines. To do this, the search engines must first know about your site. Each search engine has its own way of learning about your site. Once they know about your site, they will spider or crawl your website. This means that they will follow the web links on your website and parse every page that you link to internally and store it in their database. You will want to have links to all of the internal pages you have in order to get them to show up properly in the search engines.
Another good way to get the search engines to properly crawl your site is to have a good sitemap on your site. Sitemaps are used so search engines (and people) can easily find any page on your site that you want them to get to. You can submit your site to search engines or you can get a link pointing to your site from another site. This is one of the quickest ways to get listed in the search engines quicker.
Pay Per Click Traffic
If you are willing to pay to get traffic to your site, there are many options. The bottom line to pay per click is that a small ad is placed on other sites with existing traffic (this can be done on most search engines). Then, when someone sees the ad about your site, if they click on the ad, they come directly to your site (and you are charged for the click). The price of the click can range anywhere from a penny to several dollars depending on the keywords used and the competition for those words.
Backlink Traffic
One of the best ways for getting traffic to your website is with backlinks. Backlinks are web links pointing to your website from other websites. Ideally, you want the backlinks to be from sites that have high search engine rankings and are related to the content on your site. Not only will you get traffic directly from these other sites, but the search engines will rank you higher because they look at links from other sites as a "vote" for your website. So, the more backlinks you can get to your site, the better.
