Here are the exact steps needed to create, put online, and promote your small business.
1) Creating a Website - The first thing that you need to do to create a website is to get a WYSIWYG. WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get". This allows you to create a website without having any technical knowledge such as HTML, PHP etc. The best option for a WYSIWYG is either FrontPage, or Dreamweaver. Both cost over $300.
If you ever decide that you want to change the content of the page, or pages you will need to open up your WYSIWYG again and then manually change every page that will be affected by the new updates.
2) Web Hosting - You will then need to find a webhost. Webhosts put your website online, so that other people can access it. There are hundreds of web hosts, and they offer different amounts of bandwidth and storage space. Basically the more bandwidth you have, the more visitors you can get. The more Storage space you have, the bigger your website can be. You then need to create an FTP account and upload all of your pages and images to your web host. You then must check every page to make sure that your website is working correctly. If you find a mistake you must go back, redo the page in your WYSIWY, and then upload it once again to your website.
3) Site Promotion - You must submit your site to Search Engines. There are thousands of Search Engines, and you should submit to as many of them as possible. You should try to also buy PPC or Pay Per Click advertisements. This will require you to research keywords, and you may have to spend hours online researching different keywords, and how much they cost with Adwords. You will need to submit your website to directories. Finally you will have to do SEO on your site. SEO stands for Seach Engine Optimization. This is basically what keywords your website targets. You will need to buy various software to find out exactly what keywords are profitable and what ones aren't. You will need to find out what keywords get many searches, and have very little competition. This software will usually cost you over a thousand dollars. After you have finally researched all of the keywords, and have decided which ones are good to use, you will have to go back to your WYSIWYG and change all of your pages to reflect the keywords that you want the SE's to associate with your website.
This process is extremely long, hard and expensive, but it will probably be worth it once you finally have your website completed, and are starting to get traffic.
