Drop ship wholesalers exist because retailers are aiming to maximize efficiency and lower costs by eliminating the need for maintaining or piling inventories. The retailer would gain from drop ship transactions by computing the difference between the retail and the wholesale price. Drop ship wholesalers are rapidly becoming popular in the Western countries and some other key markets, though many third world and developing markets are yet to be exposed to their benefits.
Drop ship wholesalers may or may not be associated or affiliated with the retailers. Instead, they can be independent and can function separately. As a matter of fact, it is noticeable that most retailers entering transactions with drop ship wholesalers are aiming to hide such arrangements to avoid stigma. Add to that, retailers do not want to promote the wholesalers as doing so is like pushing their customers out of their service and into the wholesaler's. This can explain why most drop ship wholesale transactions do not include return addresses.
Drop ship wholesalers are also widely identifiable in online auctioneering businesses. Retailers and online shops are the most common customers and partners of such businesses. The next time you encounter drop ship wholesalers, you certainly would understand the nature of their businesses better.
