Who says that gaming is only for people who sit inside their rooms and get too lazy to stand up even to get a drink of water? Clearly, the new generation of gaming consoles hasn’t reached them yet. Following their reigning success in the PC world, Microsoft developed the Xbox and later the Xbox 360 to compete against the growing Sony Playstation company. One of the essential parts of Xbox is that it has Ethernet connection which lets the player connect to the Internet and access Xbox Live. They can then download a lot of free features. Xbox 360 would later also provide free movies available only for Xbox 360 watching. Playstation was also hot on the heels of their competitors. In 2006, they finally released Playstation3 or PS3. PS3 is the first console which managed to use Blu-Ray and also use it for gaming. Having both Ethernet and wi-fi also allows the user to log into the Internet and download system upgrades. After a few harrowing problems regarding their consoles, Nintendo finally hit it right with the Nintendo Wii. Wii is one of the most famous consoles right now, focusing on having players interact not only with their consoles and controllers, but also with other people. This gives the users more chances to become active. The newly-released Wii Fit is another one of Miyamoto’s rapidly becoming famous consoles where the players get to exercise and do simple yoga based on the carefully calculated BMI’s. Current reigning champions for interactive handheld consoles include the PSP and the Nintento DS. However, DS gets a lot of points from gamers because of its unique decision to have two LCD screens, the second one being touchscreen. A built-in wi-fi allows gamers to play against each other within a limited range of space. Also, the touchscreen not only encourages the pressing of buttons but has a myriad of ways in which to also use it, such as by drawing or by writing. So don’t think that gaming is just for people who lack social skills. In fact, it takes a lot of patience and understanding to find someone whom you’re comfortable enough with to play games, beat constantly, and will still come back for more.
