Cheap Does Not Necessarily Mean Low Quality
While it is true that you get what you pay for, quite a few of the cheap cell phones on the market today provide excellent sound clarity. If your main reason for having a cell phone is to make and receive calls, this will be an important characteristic of any phone you consider. Along with providing a credible level of sound quality, many of the cheap cell phones today also are constructed with components that will hold up very well to all the usual abuse people tend put their mobile phones through. In terms of durability and sound quality, a basic cheap cell phone will do the job.
How About Features?
This is where you need to take a solid look at what you want from a phone. There are low-end cell phones that will provide some limited extras, such as a camera phone. Usually, they are offered for a low price in exchange for a two-year commitment to a vendor. However, if you are not interested in a lot of feature, it is possible to obtain a cheap cell phone that is usable on a pay as you go network, and avoid paying for a bunch of features you will never use anyway.
Locked or Unlocked?
The ability to unlock a cell phone from a network used to be a feature that only came with more expensive cell phones. That is no longer the case. There are now several cheap cell phones for sale today that can be moved with ease from one network to another. While the procedures vary, usually the process is relatively simple to manage. So if you feel the need to move from one pay as you go service to another, there is a good chance you can not only take your number along, but also the actual cheap cell phone.
In Conclusion
The decision to go with a cheap cell phone is really based on what you want or need with the unit. If all you need is basic calling ability with voice mail and other features that are activated with the digital keypad, then a simple and inexpensive cell phone will probably be fine. If you do need advanced features and services, however, be prepared to spend a little more money in order to get what you want.
