Do you love reading, but finding the time to read is becoming harder as each year passes? With our lives becoming more and more hectic, with work, family and social commitments, who can find the time necessary to devour your average novel or book of choice.
This had become a major problem for me, until a good friend of mine suggested that I try audio books. To be honest, I had never thought of listening to audio books as a way of quenching my thirst for knowledge.
My first introduction to audio books was a CD by Robert Kiyosaki. I am sure you have heard of it. It's Called Rich Dad Poor Dad. The first day I bought it, I listened to it three times. (I am a truck driver who spends 10 to 12 hours a day on the road). I was hooked. It would have taken me about a week to read the book itself, yet I managed to get through it three times in one day. With each listen I picked up new information that I had missed in the previous listen. I found that my comprehension of the information had increased dramatically. Especially after multiple listens. I now had a way of learning what I wanted to learn without having to find any extra time in my already demanding schedule.
Another great benefit that audio books offer is that many are abridged. Simply put, it means that the book only contains the information that matters. All the fluff and filler have been removed. This helps the book to flow more naturally. This is great, especially for informational type audios. This also means that you get the facts in a shorter period, which in turn enables you to listen to even more books.
Having been a user of audio books now for about two years, I have purchased books from many genres including biographies, self help, fiction, health and many more. I have taught myself a great deal about computers, the Internet and business simply by listening to audio books whilst driving my truck. I guess, in a way, I'm actually being paid to learn.
I now have well over 150 audio books in my collection, many of which are downloadable audio books. I have found these to be considerably cheaper than those on CD or tape. Downloadable audio books are also a great alternative, as I can load them on to my Ipod or onto an SD card. This is also great as I don't have to fumble about with CDs or tapes while I'm driving. I simply pop the card into my stereo for hours of listening pleasure.
If you are at all considering checking out some audio books, I urge you to at least give them a try. There are even some companies that offer a 30 day money back guarantee on their products.
I hope this article has been helpful for those of you who don't have the time to read, but would love to. I am sure that there are many people out there who are in a similar situation as me. People such as truck drivers, salespeople, factory and outdoor workers could all benefit by listening to audio books. Once again, I hope this helps and happy listening.
