Fact is many people seem to think this is the way it works. So after a few weeks that the site has been up and maybe a few link exchanges later there are still no sales. In the meantime you have paid for hosting; a keyword research tool maybe even bought a search engine optimization product all adding up to a few hundred dollars.
With a return on investment of zero after two months of slogging along the idea of making money online seems to be a pipe dream, nothing more than unrealistic expectations, and at this point you either try something new, which again will cost money, or you just give up and remain content with your day job.
Fact is, there are ways and means for you to make money online. It just takes much more dedication and work to make it a reality and does not constitute only fifteen minutes of work per day. What you put in is what you will get out. If there were free rides we would all be rich by now.

On the other hand when you are writing articles promoting the products you are selling the dynamics of the article changes. That of course is where your resource box is and the link to the sales page of the affiliate product you are promoting.
Before doing anything the first thing you must do is to make sure which product you are going to promote. You make the decision based on a set of criteria that will ensue that you will not be wasting time.
From here you go on to selecting the keywords for the article based on the product you are promoting. This is then followed with some keyword research to find the best possible keyword you could rank for in the search engines and that does get traffic.
Once you have these elements in place it is time to write the article. You can just write the article, and generate a few sales if any, or construct your article taking all the little nuances and subtleties into account making the article great and getting the readers to click on your link.
