Most people write articles because they are trying to earn money either by selling their own products or they may be trying to sell the products of others. Either way is just fine. The goal is to get the traffic. An article of about 350 to 400 words is optimum, although some are much larger. Write so that it is easy to read. Write in the same way you talk. The average reader is reading on the 8th grade level, so it does no good to try to fill the article with long, and obscure words. The reader doesn't have time to look up every other word in a dictionary for it's meaning. Check your spelling for errors before publishing.
Structure your article so that it makes sense to the reader. If you are telling a story, a quick outline before you start can help you to keep things in the order they should be. You might write an article that solves a problem for the reader. In this case, start with a headline that catches the eye and tells a little about what the article covers. Then, lay out the problem. Try to tie the problem with the reader's situation. That will result in his reading the article to help with his problem.
Offer a solution for the problem. Give some real information that will help the reader and make him want to know more. This will lead him to seek out more information regarding the subject and that...is where you come in. It just happens that you have a website that offers more information whether free or to buy.
How to get the reader to your website is the last step. Links within your article can be set up to go directly to your site. Some article directories may not accept them. But, they all allow you to place links to your site in your author resource box or area.
Write the content for your author resource box with an invitation to come to your site and get a free gift. And, make it a great quality gift. These are some simple but effective steps to getting free traffic that keeps on coming.
