“Sunday in the Park with George” is a musical play depicting the life of George Seurat in the first act and his grandson of the same name in the second act. This is an emotional journey of two creative artists and their struggle with time. The play received mixed reactions from the critics, but overall, was appreciated a lot by the audience. The original director of this Broadway show is James Lapine. Its premiere was held at Playwrights Horizons. In 1984, it opened at the Booth Theatre in Broadway. Here, it ran 604 shows and grabbed the Pulitzer Prize as well as the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters, who were the original stars of this show, got nominations for Tony Awards.
