You can first get a list of sites, which will be similar with content, and find out if they are willing to exchange links with you. This way since you have your link on similar sites, people interested in the same will automatically find a way to visit yours. Then there has to be the proper presentation for the site. Irrespective of what you are selling, the content, headlines etc all have to be unique.
This will be the only reason that someone will be willing to read more on your site. This is a way that will enhance the site as well. Once the headlines are catchy, then there will be a lot more traffic to the site. The site, if there is one will also have to be easy to load. This will make it simpler for all the users to view. Submitting sites on search engines will be a good idea.
You can do this for free as well, and though it might take a while to get some popularity, this is one of the best ways to let your site be seen. Then you have submissions to directories. You can write articles about the product or service and start submitting them to directories. This is a great way to get publicity for free, as directories will accept articles for free.
There are other directories as well, with which you can submit links, and they will use the links under certain categories. As much as possible, all the low-level link exchanges should be avoided. You must try and stay in the clear when it comes to getting banned from sites, as this could happen if yours is not of quality. You need not spend a great deal spending money on Internet marketing, as there could be companies out there who may not tell you the whole picture.
If you are passionate about what you want to sell, then you will find it easier to handle.
