Online classes are typically bound to certain fields and courses. The main reason is that the classes need to be capable of being done in a virtual set up. Some classes like physical education are not possible for this as there is a physical element that needs to be done. This is also true with some classes that have lab requirements. They could have part of the class in an online set up, but would still require physical lab time in addition.
One degree that has shown what an online course truly should be is the online masters in health communication that is offered by Boston University. This is a degree that focuses on the relations of in house departments of a health-based company. They also deal with the outside interaction that the company may have with media, commissions, or even other health-based companies. A profession like this is considered to be very challenging and one that requires a high level of education. The online masters in health communication has proven that the online method can be very effective if it is properly laid out for the students. These online students obtain the same level of education as those that take the classes on campus.
The online approach also makes it easier for students to hit their work when they have a need to. For those students that have to work, care for a family, or have an emergency, the online approach can make all the difference. The degree has been seen as the same as what an on campus student would get. The online approach has also shown one huge advantage in that a student can realistically gain their degree in eighteen months. This is a huge difference for a masters or even a bachelors degree.
