Yes, you can get free grants from the U.S. government. There are many different types of grants available that anyone can apply for. You’ve probably seen or heard the ads telling you about all the free money you can get just by asking:
Free Government Grants to Pay Your Mortgage
Money For Seniors To Fix Up A Home
Cash For A New Roof
Free Money For A Down Payment
Funding For Truck Stop Employees To Go To School
Money To Study Islam
Free Money To Be A Chef
A Grant To Study Nursing
Sounds great. After all, my house is getting old and a free roof would help me save a lot or money.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of these free grants are for very specific purposes – and most people won’t qualify for any of them! And none of them offer free money to someone just because they have a lot of credit card debt.
If you really want to check out these free government grants, go to your local library and see if they have one of these books (that you can read or borrow for free!) Or visit the website set up by the U.S. government website that explains these grants. Hey, there’s always the chance that you’ll fit the criteria for one of these grants.
But if you’re looking for free government grants just because you need help getting out of debt, you’ll be disappointed. Save your money, and pay a little extra on your next credit card bill.
What should you do if you really need help managing your credit card debt?
Contact a credit counseling service (http://www.nfcc.org/) and discuss your options. You won’t get out of debt overnight, and you’ll probably need some help learning how to control your spending, make more money, or both.
So, while there are no real free government grants for people with too much debt, there are ways to get real help controlling your credit card bills.
