Originally from Gainesville, Florida, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their first album officially in LA. Tom released his first solo album “Full Moon Fever” in 1989. This album managed to find its place at the Billboard top ten charts for more than 34 weeks! It received triple platinum status. Tom’s single numbers like “Runnin' Down A Dream”, “I Won't Back Down”, and the smashing hit “Free Fallin'” were produced from his debut solo. After his solo success, Tom re-united with his band.
Once again, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers made the audience rush for Tom Petty and the Heartbreak tickets with their album “Into the Great Wide Open” in 1991. The year 1993 saw the Greatest Hits Album that featured the number “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.” An hour-long documentary by the title “Tom Petty: Going Home” was aired in 1994 on the Disney Channel. The same year, the band’s talented drummer Stan Lynch left the band during the recording of Tom’s second solo album.
Tom’s album “Wildflowers” gained the eighth position on the charts and received triple platinum status. The album featured three numbers that became super hits – “You Wreck Me”, “You Don't Know How It Feels”, and “It's Good To Be King.” These numbers proved Tom’s mettle and convinced the world that he was a reigning star!
There was no stopping to the hits churned out by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Albums like “Echo” and “The Last DJ” made the audience go crazy for Tom Petty and his numbers!
